Value Delivered

EMCOR Construction Services Midwest upgraded and replaced mechanical, electrical, and energy management systems for North Newton School Corporation (NNSC) in nine school facilities.

After evaluating these facilities’ needs, we self-performed this project under a guaranteed energy savings contract that helped ensure energy savings of at least $69,063 annually over 10 years.

Within eight years, the average annual savings was $82,539, for an eight-year total of $660,308 in energy savings.

We also helped NNSC arrange a financing package that enabled them to conserve capital while covering the project’s costs.

Our solutions helped provide the schools with new cooling capacity; improved building comfort and HVAC reliability; high-efficiency lighting; resolution of environmental issues; and lower operating costs—while delivering ongoing economies, efficiencies, and investment returns.

Client Objectives

The client wanted to reduce energy costs and improve efficiencies at nine school facilities in two district areas.

Solutions

We converted existing fuel oil heating to gas to help improve efficiency and eliminate long-standing environmental issues. We also retrofitted all the buildings’ lighting systems. Our solutions included installation of:

  • High-efficiency boilers at the high school and administration buildings
  • Variable frequency drives on existing air-handling units
  • An automatic pool cover at the high school to reduce that facility’s heat loss and improve operating efficiencies

To help automatically optimize performance and economies, we also connected the new and existing equipment to a sophisticated, district-wide energy management system.

Client Background

The North Newton School Corporation is a public school district serving approximately 1,300 students.
